SCR-300 Radio [Game Ready]

Project Breakdown here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/nJWv51

I'm proud to present my SCR-300 radio as part of my Term 1 Capstone project for Vertex School.

The SCR-300 is considered to be the first walkie-talkie, primarily used during WWII. I wanted to honor its history by incorporating compelling and cohesive storytelling elements, such as the banged-up case, the bullet hole, the photo of the couple, the blood stains, and more.

I loved working on this project as it helped me improve my texturing skills in Substance Painter and my sequencing skills in Unreal Engine. I also experimented with Nanite landscapes and foliage, using the blend-by-height method for different landscape textures, which was a lot of fun.

There were even some minor Niagara explosions involved, which didn’t take long to create, and I used several Megascans assets to fill out the environment and set the mood. Additionally, I incorporated the Ultra Dynamic Sky and Weather plugin to enhance the scene.

A huge thank you to my Mentor, Andrew Baker, who has always been incredibly supportive and insightful. No matter the question, doubt, or perplexity I had, he provided excellent guidance. Beyond being an amazing teacher, Andrew came up with brilliant ideas such as the straps, the oscillating antenna, the mud, and the banged-up case that I implemented in the final render.

I’d also like to thank Paul Layton for his outstanding knowledge and teaching skills. He helped me optimize the mesh, refine material-related nodes, and provided invaluable general feedback and support.

Additionally, a big thanks to Marcelo Mendes for his guidance, clear explanations, and ZBrush expertise, which were incredibly helpful during our LABS sessions.

Thank you all for helping me bring this prop to life!
